Should I say? What is this thread?
absolutezilch Hey Big Zam!
Back in my day, 'asl' was the shit. I imagine people must still use than on Omegle though.

When I was 16 years old the internet was new and sparsely populated. It was a/s/l? asked tentatively in the AOL chatrooms and then two hours downloading a single picture of a topless woman.

@Parks: ok i thought you were making a joke about me
i just haven't lurked here as much as i used to
deadshadow foking furry
@BBurn0: it might make me an asshole but I don't like being asked to do shit im here to shitpost and lurk
deadshadow foking furry
@Parks: look the universe if fucking huge if there is only use its a massive waste of space

@Parks:
Yes. You can't gain knowledge without time passing, and time passing is what creates age.

@Mike:
Time does exist. Without it, life could not exist. The problem isn't whether or not time exists, it's whether or not it's stable.
cannonofdoom Superannuate
@Mike:
Time is simply a measure of entropy. The past is a fabrication of our memory, the future is a fabrication of our imagination. Time is the present, and each moment is all of time.

@cannonofdoom:
I disagree. Thats like saying a falling tree doesn't make a noise when nobody is around to hear it. The sound waves still happen. The same with time. Long before we existed, and long after we are gone, things will still happen, and without time, those things would have no way of happening.
cannonofdoom Superannuate
@BBurn0:
I am not saying there is no such thing as time. But our imagining of time as a thing, a force or power that can be manipulated or traveled through, is a fantasy. We can not travel through time because it is not a thing that exists beyond the current moment. The past evaporates like fog in sunlight. The future is it's own fog, swirling and changing, coalescing into the present before fading. Time is not a driving force of the universe. It is not a constant. It is only the now, and the memory of the past and the hope of the future. Memories and hopes are not things, though no less real for that.

@cannonofdoom:
That isn't how time works. There are proven ways to cheat it, and effectively send somebody forward in time without them aging.
cannonofdoom Superannuate
@BBurn0:
Cryogenics and time dilation do not cheat time. If anything it reinforces my point.
Deleted User
@cannonofdoom:
Cryogenics do not, I agree with that one. Time is a dimension that we travel through. It is foolish to say it doesn't exist, and that it is fantasy. That's like saying the world is flat.

@Parks:
there are many kinds of "age"
legal age: the amount of years your government says you are
"soul" age: how old you feel
physical age: how old your body feels (can even be different for different parts of your body), has to do with hormones and rate of cellular decay
mental age: how old your brain thinks you are (is mostly dependent on memories)
...
so yes AI's age, just as a tree ages or the earth ages
sonny88p
@Mike:
Time exists, it is a dimension
Humans can currently only move in one direction of that dimension though
Side note: a long time ago I wrote down a formula stating that you can go in the reverse direction of time, but only if you use a thus unused dimension
sonny88p
@cannonofdoom:
wrong, time is a dimension
wrong, the past did happen, our memory is a fabrication of the past
wrong, the future is a thing that will happen, what you think might happen is your imagination
wrong, the present is just a dot on the timeline (just to dumb it down a little)
right, each and every moment together does make up all of time
sonny88p
@cannonofdoom:wrong, you are currently traveling through time
most likely it is at a rate of approximately 1 (moving) second per (still) second
sonny88p
@BBurn0:
there are currently no ways to send someone forward in time without them aging
you can send them with less aging
time dilation for example can do that
it's having an effect on you right now, just a very small effect
but just remember this, even when you speed up to absolute light speed and then slow down to "zero speed", the time to speed up and slow down also plays a part in aging. so you do still continue aging

@sonny88p:
I agree with everything you said. I think you made the same point I was trying to make, just more elegantly.
sonny88p
@BBurn0:
so how about time travel, going back in time
Do you agree that humans would need at least control of 7th dimensional physics?
absolutezilch Hey Big Zam!
To me, the above discussion just showcases different schools of thought. One perspective is scientific (Bburno, sonny88p) while the other is philosophical (cannonofdoom).
cannonofdoom Superannuate
Time is inseparable from space, as Einstein noted. This is because it is not a separate dimension, but part of the fabric of spacetime itself. We measure entropy. That is all.
sonny88p
@cannonofdoom:
dimensions are not separate, they are linked, Einstein was right, your interpretation of what I said was not
Entropy is a quality of things within the universe
It is not the universe itself or a dimension within it, it is just a quality
sonny88p
@absolutezilch:
cannonofdoom started with philosophical and then quickly mixed it with a half minded understanding of science
cannonofdoom Superannuate
@sonny88p:
I understand how you think, and I will now ignore you, since true discussion will be impossible.
sonny88p
@cannonofdoom:
wrong, you dont understand how i think
Sure, you can ignore me, I don't mind
yes, true discussion about this is impossible, because a discussion requires arguments which you have still not provided, this is not a discussion, this is a lesson but you aren't listening to the teachers
sonny88p
@BBurn0:
here's a basic course:
1, 2 and 3 are space, most of the time we use X Y and Z but there are many other ways to portray space
4 is a single timeline, currently humans only move down it in one direction
5 and 6 (they run perpendicular to 4) are what you would use to get to alternate timelines, this is what science fiction has dubbed alternate universes or alternate dimensions
for me personally I prefer the polar coordinate system for these dimension because I find it easier to describe "sliding" (verb comes from the tv show Sliders)
7 is very hard to describe in a simple way
but it's basically like coordinates of the 7th dimension are imaginary numbers compared to coordinates on the timeline, in the same way that coordinates on the timeline are imaginary numbers compared to coordinates of space
