Culture Shock: Translations

absolutezilch

Hey Big Zam!

Being a foreign fuck who loves alliteration and unrelated analogies, I often break out in to songs in Hindi in the kitchen to the amusement of my roommates. When I try to translate certain songs, I realize how ridiculous they often sound. I thought I would share a song and its translation with you guys as I will do sometimes in this thread and if you find it even a little as amusing as my roommates did, you will have a hearty laugh. This song is called "Nimbooda" and it's an old classic.

If you think the video's a bunch of funny gibberish, here's the translation:

Ye Nimbooda, Ay Nimbooda
This lemon
Ho Ho Oo Ho...
Dhinak Dhinak Dhinak Dhinta
(Indian Classical Beats)

Nimbooda Nimbooda Nimbooda (x2)
Lemon
Arre Kaacha Kaacha Chhota Chhota Nimbooda Layi Do
Bring a raw, small lemon

Arre Layido Layido Laydo (x2)
Nimboo Layido
Ja Khet Se Hariyala Nimbooda Layido
Go get a fresh green lemon from the fields

Deewanon Ki Buri Nazar Se Bachna Ho To Sunlo (x2)
If You want to save Yourself from the evil eye of crazy lovers
Arre Khatta Khatta Nimboo Tez
Cut the sour lemon sharply
Chhuri Se Sar Pe Kaato
With the knife
Phir Chhota Chhota Nimbooda Kya Jaadu
Then what wonders this small lemon does
Karega Dekho
Just see
Ki Buri Nazar Vo Khatti Hoyegi
That evil eye, shall become sour
Phir Char Raste Pe Vo Utar Giregi
Then it will go and land on the cross-roads

Itna Sa Hai Par Hai To Rasila
It's little, still its juicy
Chakha Tha Bada Ta Hai Chabila
I tasted it and it was very tingling
Iski Khushboo Se Bhi Lalcha Jaata Hai Ye Mann
Its fragrance makes Your heart greedy
Rakhde Zubaan Par Do Bas
Just put it on Your tongue

Lekin Chaahat Mein Sajna Sajni Ko
When in love between a guy and a girl
Lagti Hai Ek Duje Ki Nazar
They get the evil eye of one another
Tab Un Mein Aksar
Then many a times there is
Hoti Hai Meethi Takraar
A sweet fight
Nimbooda Bole Hai Yehi Pyaar
The lemon says that this is truly love

Hurr...
To Layido Layido
So bring
Haan Layido Layido
Yes bring
Meri Suni Saheliyon Jaake Zara Layido
My girl-friends just go and get
Chhota Nimbooda
A small lemon
Layido
Bring it

I'm not going to do this that often but if I remember a song that has a ridiculous translation, such as a lady becoming strangely poetic about lemons, I will do so on this thread.

TL;DR: Crazy lady becomes strangely poetic about lemons in Hindi songs.

If you guys have funny translations from other languages as well, feel free to share them in this thread.

I think I'm developing a weird problem here. Every time I read any word like "bring," my brain automatically reads it as "b0r1ng."

So b0r1ng
Yes b0r1ng
...B0r1ng it

I feel like most songs would sound silly once translated to other Languages.

@B0r1ng: It might just be your brain changing the way you think its spelt by its sound.

Hey Big Zam!

@Parks: Yeah but sometimes it's a little more asinine than you'd expect. Of course, even people in India scoff at this song.
