I think the Dragon type would be pretty cool as well (but that's more for the Elite 4 rather than gym leaders), but if we were allowed to have this type (like in Gold/Silver), I'd go with

@ADashofRainbow: Nah, there'll be some sappy backstory revealed where I saved a Mudkip when I was little from a mean trainer that tried to make him evolve too fast, and overtime we became inseparable. Then one day, after a decisive battle that eventually led me to Leaderhood, he started evolving. I tried to stop it because I wasn't sure if he was ready, but he then puts his paw on my shoulder with a knowing look, which I realize and give the same look in return as he evolves.
Morale of this stupid-ass backstory: all good things must come to an end, and to prepare for the future or something.

The first 45 seconds are me talking to the trainer and is played outside of battle as the trainer talks to me. Like it goes and I talk for about 40 seconds then as the battle begins the 45 seconds is over as the pokemon go out.
