Even though I shouldn't have to, I recommend Cowboy Bebop......because.......it's Cowboy Bebop.
Floki
Gintama is a gamble, but definitely worth a shot.

Just started rewatching Yu Yu Hakusho and I actually really like it. If you don't mind watching a 112-episode show, I'd recommend it.

I'm working on black butler, not actually a black butler
I expected Geoffrey Barbara Butler

@BreadWolf:112 a lot to go through i would have to look into it more to see if its something i would like, but i usually agree with your opinions on anime so i will probably end up watching it eventually.

@ReservoirDog:
I'd also recommend both Unbreakable Machine-Doll and Yusibu (aka: "I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job") if you're in the mood for some whimsy. They're both shounen, though, so take it for what it is.

Apparently no one has posted Naruto yet, so I'm gonna have to be the one to do it. Watch Naruto.
Redblood801 Chief Dingus
@MLP_JoshF: At least up to the start of the filler arc, then you can just say your done.
MLP_JoshF
@Redblood801: Then you just skip the fillers and go to the last arc of Part 1, finish that and start Shippuden, skipping those fillers (there aren't nearly as plentiful in Shippuden) using a filler list.
Jakalarf
@MLP_JoshF: i started watching naruto a while ago and stopped because of school and i started watching other stuff. for an anime thats that many episodes i would have to be very invested and interested in it, and so far i have not. that's why i usually put off anime that is 100 episodes.

New episode of Skrilla Skrill today, ya'll! If you haven't watched this yet, it's hilariously self aware of anime tropes, has an awesome art style, and good characters. If you can't handle fan service, it might not be for you, but the art style is more interesting and unique, rather than a highly realistic style that most would go for if just being sexy. Maybe a bit of a parody of other anime. Great character designs. From the mind behind Gurren Lagen.
I love Ryuuko, her demure nature, and her subsequent humiliation. And she's also totally bad ass, so don't go cry to the feminists yet.
Oh you sillys! Ironically pretending to like Naruto, Bleach, and MLP. You guys get me every time.

@RandyIcon:
Kill la Kill's pretty awesome. But it's Trigger, so a lot of people assume it's the greatest thing ever. It's hard to prove that when there are only two episodes out.
RandyIcon
@BreadWolf:
Agreed. But ep3 is today, so we'll see. I really had just an excellent time watching ep1, but you're right people react over trigger's stuff too much, perhaps. Ep 2 was good, but not quite as good as the first. But it's tough to beat this pilot, I think. Such a great atmosphere to this show, IMO.

So Seitokai Yakuindomo (SYD) is getting a second adaption this winter. FUCK YES. First season was hilarious. And its alright RedBlood. I understand you.
RandyIcon
@MrFozzilla:
Oh, man! it's been forever, I thought that was done. That was a good 'ol time. That's right, it did end on sort of an open end, huh?
MrFozzilla the Inactive
Don't know if this has been recommended already but Anohana (The Flower we saw that day)
THIS ANIME MAN.
Its great. (IMO) Its only 11 episodes and I think they even made a movie of it but shortened some parts and added others? No clue. But the ending is very sad but very uplifting. I cried like a bitch. I definitely recommend but it might not be your genre so WELP.
CyroWolf
@Redblood801: That's what I did up until volume 38 (whenever that came out). Last thing I got to was the new puppet guy (the end of the fight with him). Never really followed the show, but I'm sure BreadWolf and NateHaloDragon will get me to watch it eventually after everything else that I apparently need to watch.
MLP_JoshF
@BreadWolf: *SPOILERS for a plot point that came out years ago*
It's funny how he fast he died. He was brought in, took down Kankuro, fought with Sakura and Chiyo and died. He died like 20 episodes after he was introduced.
BreadWolf Weinerlord
@MLP_JoshF:
Yeah, but fortunately the Edo Tensei allowed his story to be flushed out just a tad bit more. I was pretty interested in the Akatsuki members' backstories.
If you don't know what I mean, don't worry about it.
MLP_JoshF
@BreadWolf: I know what you mean, but even after his reanimation, he still wasn't alive for that long. Again, he showed up, fought for a bit, had some story revealed, and was sealed again.
MLP_JoshF
Bump since I have nothing better to do than binge watch anime since it's exam week and we get out at like 10:15 everyday. Plus, I've also got a 6 day break this weekend, so I could probably watch a fuckton of anime in that time.
MLP_JoshF
@MLP_JoshF: To give an idea of my "binge watching" habits, today alone, I finished up the rest of Angel Beats!, and watched all of WataMote.
MLP_JoshF
@TheXRayFactor: Okay, but knowing me and how I marathon everything, it'll probably be done within a day, so I'll probably need more anime to watch. Preferably something humorous or a slice of life type of anime.
MLP_JoshF
@TheXRayFactor: You underestimate how little I have to do. But, if I don't really enjoy it, I won't watch all of it, but I definitely could.
MLP_JoshF
@TheXRayFactor: I will this weekend when I have no exams to worry about. It's a total of about 17 or 18 hours or so, which I could do on any day from Friday to Next Thursday since I have no school those days.
MLP_JoshF
@ADashofRainbow: I'm really enjoying it. In fact, I like it a lot more than I did Angel Beats!, which I just thought was okay.
Redblood801 Chief Dingus
@ADashofRainbow:
@TheXRayFactor:
Now now, we can settle this like reasonable pe- oh man sorry, it's hard to keep a straight face when saying that.

@MLP_JoshF:
It didn't sell well on Japan, so I doubt it.
I find it funny how it is "weird" even for their standards. That's a huge accomplishment.
MLP_JoshF
@TheXRayFactor: Meh, it's not that weird. Maybe a little when you're first watching it, but it's fine after an episode or two, and you get used to it.
Professor
@Jakalarf: Don't forget to ring grandma and your significant others parents as well. They'll really love it.
Shannon Queen
Despite one of them being a 'girls anime' I have 3 favourites that I recommend:
- Ouran High Host Club
- Spice and Wolf
- The World Only God Knows
ltayl1 1.048596
@Shannon: Aha! Rekked by the Ampersand!
I can assume that the 2nd one down on this list was Spice and Wolf right?
NovaSethyr
I cannot praise Kaiji enough, as it is the anime that got me into anime again after years of not caring.
After that would be Mushishi, because every once in a while you want to chill with a nice and relaxing anime that can really allow you to think about how humans interact with the unknown.
Hmmm, everything else has been said at least once in this thread I think. But i'll put them down anyways. Niuchijou, Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou, Seto no Hanayome, are all fantastic and deserve a watch.
The newest anime Nisekoi just started recently, and I've been keeping up woth the manga, I like it.
Hmmm, I'll post some more once I remember them.
TheXRayFactor Based Deak
@NovaSethyr:
Nisekoi is the shaft one, right? If so, the first episode seemed alright, not spectacular but good enough.
ReservoirDog
Beyond the Boundary isn't bad, also I like Space Dandy which is even more odd and over the top than Kill la Kill. Also you should all watch Hunter X Hunter (2011) from the beginning. It's at episode 112 right now but by the time you catch up it should be pretty close to wrapping up the current arc.
Chenzo ( ͡° ͜ʖ
@ReservoirDog: A buddy of mine IRL told me about Hunter X Hunter recently. I liked the sound of it, so it's somewhere on my "to-do list".

Mirai Nikki is an amazing show so far. Honestly, I've never seen a show like this before. Great characters, great animation, great pacing and suspense, and it never lets you down. You think you know a character, but the next episode comes by and things go from 10 to 11, and then the next episode they get bumped up a notch to 12. And it doesn't stop.
Also, Yuno is so fucking creepy! She's also adorable though... but seriously she is fucking crazy!
JohnStephen
@simsoy:
I loved Mirai Nikki, but it got disappointing later on in my opinion. I think it had a lot of potential but didn't live up to what it could have been. And near the end it gets fucking weird.
MisterDiddlez
If you're looking for a darker more serious show, check out Fate Zero, its my 2nd favourite anime ever and it's something everyone should see. If you're looking for a good drama that'll make you weep then I would recommend Clannad and Clannad After Story, they share the spot of my number one favourite anime. If you're just looking for some fun try Noucome, Outbreak Company or Sword Art Online.
Deleted User
@MisterDiddlez:Wasn't Fate Zero just a filler season of Fate/Stay Night? I don't think Fate Zero had any original content to be based off.
Also, OP, please don't watch Sword Art Online unless you're looking for a mindless Twilight aimed at young male gamers.

@MisterDiddlez:
How dare you list trash like SAO together with the comedy masterpiece that Noucome is?
MLP_JoshF
Shows I've marathoned this week:
Angel Beats!
Watamote
Nichijou
Yuru Yuri
They're all pretty good, but I'd definitely recommend Watamote and Nichijou.

@M4xwell:I think when a title is that long, you can just call it "I Couldn’t Become a Hero, So I Reluctantly Decided to Get a Job." to make it easier for memory.
Zackizzle
Eve no Jikan, Usagi Drop, and Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei are good if you want to watch something short and a little more sophisticated than your usual anime.
TheXRayFactor Based Deak
@Zackizzle:
Eve no Jikan was going really well, but the ending is so awfully abrupt that I had to look how the last episode ended to see if it was different from the movie. The idea was neat, though.
Zackizzle
@TheXRayFactor: I felt that the ending was pretty good, but I watched it a while back, so my memory of the pacing might be a little off. I'll use this as a reason to rewatch it.
Deleted User
Can anyone recommend me a happy anime?
ReservoirDog
@Chenzo: It's great, the manga has been on hiatus for over a year though. The writer for Hunter X Hunter is notorious for taking extremely long breaks, so far this has been his longest though.

I finished Cowboy Bebop, and I'm starting Clannad
