I think Gurren Lagann is extremely overrated. It's a pretty good show, but nowhere near my favourite; while most people seem to think that it's the greatest anime ever produced in the history of the universe.

The terrible thing about this is that my friend who I recommended some anime to completely ignored my recommendations and watched Gurren Lagann instead. He spent $50 on Kamina and Simon's glasses (custom-made) and then bought Simon's drill (which he now wears around his neck constantly).

Hearing him ejaculate over it for weeks was pretty painful.

It was, and it's not that I dislike the show in any way. It's just that having someone so zealously fanatic over something you consider "meh" makes you almost despise the show itself.
