Replying to RandomAussie: Yeah when all the state mental hospitals closed down there has been an epidemic. We do need to address that. I like Canada's system of gun licensing, where you have to take a safety course to get approved. I will be the first to admit the purchasing process is flawed. The reason for that falls on to state level. There needs to be a way to do a federal database for background checks.

If I were born in any other country in the world, I'd have the same goddamn opinions as I'd had everyone else. Never once has the fact that we're American and have "extensive" freedoms been flaunted. At best, we've used it as a counterexample.

Replying to AStingyMiser: Not once did i say that Americans are ignorant i said that the freedom Americans possess protects the ignorance that some have. No not all Americans are ignorant and no ignorance isn't limited to America but you can easily see that a lot of people there just don't want to face the facts and find the easiest way out. Such as the NRA blaming video games for the latest shooting. Please try to read everything correctly.

I know a lot of people are probably tired of this thread. I person I watch on youtube made a video that says what the shooting community thinks. I will say this with confidence that he should represent gun owners.

Give me a list with the highest ratio of guns to gun-related deaths and I'll take your statistics seriously. Saying "more people die of guns here!" is like saying "this country has more car-related deaths and a higher amount of guns then this country which has no cars whatsoever!"

Replying to Mike: Drug bans don't work. Gun bans won't work. I also want to see how many of those people killed were killed by criminals. We should ban them. Also, New Zealand has much less restrictive gun laws then Canada, but much less crime. Riddle me that one, Mikey boy.

I picked up a saiga .410. opened the bolt, looked around the gun and put it down. this jackass and his hot ass girlfriend pick it up and say to me, "man with this longer barrel this would make this ak accurate, i just need to get some 5.45 ammo right?" and i made him llok like a chump. "yeah thats a saiga shotgun chambered for .410". Me and my dad go into the fine gun room come back out and this guy is at the counter looking at a M1A MIA Scout. We RAN out of the store.

I can't be fucked reading this entire thread, but why so much butthurt over gun bans? If it could potentially keep people alive, why not? Guns seem to do more harm than good. I have nothing against guns, but for civilians to have them seems unnecessary.

Look, I know you are invoking your rights as stated in the Second Amendment and that's fine, but you have to remember that the second amendment was ratified in 1791, 222 years ago. 222 years was a very long time ago, if you didn't know. While not all of the contents are irrelevant today, remember the time period they wrote it in. That was under 10 years after the end of the American War for Independence. Now look today. There hasn't been a war on US soil since the Civil War.
The right to bear arms was relevant in a period where the US was vulnerable, but today it is just an outdated concept.
Look, I'm more for gun control, which will keep guns out of the hands of the general population and let those who have proven they are capable, both with a firearm and mentally, to keep theirs. Otherwise, look what happens.

Civil wars happen all over the world, and eventually all governments fail (proven again and again throughout history). The second amendment was written with prevention of tyranny in mind. If one day Mr. Obongo decided to round up all the white people for execution, what could we do without guns? This is a very extreme example, but the message holds true. We need firearms to protect our freedom and liberty, without them government oppression could occur.
Following the right-wing agenda? If the lefties were pro-gun I'd be considered one of them! That fact of the matter is that I'm just pro-gun. I don't care about the bible, I don't care about abortion, and I don't care about gay marriage. Left or Right, I don't give a shit. It just so happens that the right is more gun friendly, which makes the political affiliation stick.
The way you said "seems like a good idea" is what really put me off though. It creates an image of someone who doesn't give a shit about actual facts and is just going with the flow. "The TV man said guns are bad and be killin' dem babbys! It seems like it would be a good idea to ban them. I mean, I don't really know anything about guns and I don't know the good things that they provide, but it seems like the right thing to do."
There is hardly a percentage gap at all! Do you realize how many crimes involving guns are typically done with shitty homemade ILLEGAL zip guns or nig nog shitty revolvers? Your average gun owner is very unlikely to murder someone or go on a shooting spree. In fact, the amount of people killed in shooting sprees is statistically irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. But I know "Muh feelings!" and "Think of the chillens!".
tl;dr: Guns aren't the problem, shitty people are. I'm a keyboard warrior.
