absolutezilchHey Big Zam!
Heyyy guys! I'm quite embarrassed to say that I never played a lot of video games before I was 16 besides First Person Shooters. I've played Counter-Strike and its different renditions for almost 10 years now. However, I have recently discovered that I've started to enjoy platformers a lot more than FPS games. I'm absolutely atrocious at it but I'm having a blast trying to get good! In the past year, I have played (in increasing order of difficulty):
1. Super Mario 3D Land (didn't get all three stars in the final level of World 10 yet... I'll do it eventually...)
2. Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (still on that one - doing the temple levels)
3. Electronic Super Joy: downloaded this one today and it's already making me bash my head in. The 'least deaths' count on the monster level at the end of world 2 for me is like 336... But I absolutely love it though.
Can you guys suggest good, relatively difficult platformers that you guys think are really good for me to try after the exams? I want 'em only for 3DS and a low specs laptop. I was thinking of doing 'Super Meat Boy' after I finish 'Electronic Super Joy'. I don't mind if the platformers have a slight puzzle aspect to them either.
TL;DR - Suggest platformers for 3DS and PC please?

Super meat boy is great. I'm not all too keen on handheld titles. If there is any way to get the NES Ninja Gaiden or all of the original Donkey Kong Country titles I'd recommend those.

@B0r1ng:
You can easily get an emulator for the older ones like Ninja Gaiden/Shadow Warrior and the old DK Country games. Most emulators run well on low-end laptops, but you may need to avoid games for systems like GameCube. PS2, Wii and some later DS games.

Thanks guys. I also just remembered that Shovel Knight will be out soon too as well as Might No. 9 around this time next year.
I think this summer, I'll get an emulator and play Ninja Gaiden and I'll get Megaman and Outland from XBLA. Should be an awesome summer.

Super Meat Boy for sure.
Braid, Time Fcuk, Thomas Was Alone are a few others that come to mind.

I consider both of the Super Mario World games are perfect platformers, I'm not sure if they're on 3DS E-Shop though.
Fez, Braid, Super Meat Boy and The Bridge are all fantastic.

@Parks: They have them on the 'virtual' console on the 3DS. I got the original Super Mario Bros. on that emulator on the 3DS and it does not control well... it might be something to do with the emulator itself but the movement is too slippery and there's a slight delay between input and movement (that might be the way the original game was though)

@Parks: Yeaaah it's not great.
Aw, I just finished Electronic Super Joy. What a great game. xD

Meat Boy is one of the greatest games ever made so I'm a little biased.
Super Metroid is one of the greatest games ever made so I'm a little biased. It's worth emulating.
Metroid Fusion is also one of the greatest games ever made.
Fez is shitty so don't get it.
You can also get the older Sonics on the compute thanks to Mist. Some of those aren't atrocious. Plus if you like it you'll be all the rage at your extra-special summer camp.
Bit.trip is fun and available on both.

@Miser_Reborn: Thank you for the recommendations Kanjoos! I've heard Fez is too easy and frustrating in terms of puzzle platforming so yeah, I might not play that... but you're totally right about Mark of the Ninja. I remember the gameplay! Stealth platforming... sounds really interesting.
I can't wait to be the big dick G platformer around my extra-special summer camp for 22 year olds...

@absolutezilch: No no, Zaman, the pleasure's all mine. I'm glad to hear you will advance skyward in the social hierarchy that is sped camp. Yours is the autism that will pierce the heavens!
absolutezilch Hey Big Zam!
@Miser_Reborn: Autism? How dare you. I am a social butterfly. Look at how fluently I am interacting with you impromptu after only two hours of sentence construction.
Can't pierce the heavens as a butterfly though. Damn Bonus Levels in these indie platformers seem to be such a mockery of my poor muscle memory.

VVVVVV, Super Meat Boy, Trine/Trine 2, Risk of Rain, No Time To Explain, Braid, Cave Story, Awesomenauts, Speedrunners, Thomas was Alone, Spelunky, Offspring Fling... Can't think of others. These are all mostly worth checking out.

@Parks:
Its got the idea, but there is no other genre in it other than puzzle
JohnStephen
I'd to disagree with several people here on the grounds that Super Meat Boy is 100% bullshit and can go fuck itself. Thank you.
PS, fuck Super Meat Boy. Fuck that game. Fuck it.
Parks Ass To Ass
@JohnStephen: Even though it's you're own opinion, on this particular matter it is wrong.
JohnStephen
@Parks:
No. The game was forged in the fires of Hell. It is proof that Edmund McMillen is fucked up. Even more proof than the Binding of Isaac is. It can go fuck itself with its catchy goddamn Satan music.
JohnStephen
@Parks:
Eh, its a lot about luck. If you have decent speed you can avoid most bloodshots (but get too fast and you'll lose control). Its definitely not as hard motherfucking Super fucking Meat Boy. I may have mentioned it before, but that game infuriates me. I still play it, though.
Parks Ass To Ass
@JohnStephen: The anger that Super Meat Boy causes is one of my favourite parts of the game. The same goes for that bastard Spelunky.
absolutezilch Hey Big Zam!
I almost forgot - Battleblock Theater was also fantastic... surprisingly difficult last levels too.
